About Mr. B
I believe too many American classrooms resemble the 19th century model that our American education system was largely founded on. I do NOT want my students to get a 19th century education as they prepare to leave BRCS and enter the 21st century. One of my primary goals and passions within this craft we call teaching is to make 21st century technology an INTEGRAL part of my curriculum…and an integral part of my students’ daily experiences. Thus, I try anything and everything new and “techy” that I find. Blogs, Wikis, Podcasting, Multi-User Virtual Environments like Second Life, VoiceThread, GoogleDocs, Social Bookmarking, and so on. Why? Because our students should NOT have to POWER DOWN when they enter our halls each morning. School should be a place where they come to GET POWERED UP! I am in the process of starting a new blog, the theme of which will be “Bringing 19th Century Classrooms Into The 21st Century World.” I am calling it 19into21. I will write more on this once I am ready to launch this conversation. Join the conversation!I was born and raised in Western New York…in the town of Wirt. I graduated as Valedictorian from Richburg Central School in 1994. I earned a B.S. from Missouri State University in 1998. I completed graduate studies in Sociology from Indiana University in 2001. I earned a Master’s Degree in Secondary Social Studies Education from Pace University in NYC in May 2004. While in NYC, I taught social studies at a public school in Brooklyn. I also have experience teaching at the college level. While completing graduate studies at Indiana University, I taught introductory courses in the social sciences. Most recently I enrolled in the Educational Leadership and Policy program at the University of Texas with the goal of earning an M.S. in Education. Currently, I teach high school social studies at Bolivar-Richburg Central School. I am excited to be teaching College Sociology and US History 11 during the 2010-2011 school year!
